The Provocative Oscar Wilde

In englischer Sprache.
Edited and directed by Christopher Denys.

THE PROVOCATIVE OSCAR WILDE, is one of Brian D. Barnes´s most popular One Man Theatre shows. The narrative is built up through anecdotes, letters, and incidents seen from the viewpoint of Oscar's literary executor, Robert Ross. He gives a clear and intimate insight into the author's complex life: Wilde´s dazzling wit - his fame - his ultimate downfall as a result of his hopeless infatuation for 'Bosie' (Lord Alfred Douglas) - his resultant trial for homosexual offences, which led to two years imprisonment with hard labour - and finally his death in Paris.
The production reveals various facets of Wilde´s genius: the black humour of LORD ARTHUR SAVILE´S CRIME, the allegorical beauty of THE SELFISH GIANT and the forceful protest of THE BALLAD OF READING GAOL, plus his brilliance as a playwright in scenes from LADY WINDERMERE´S FAN and THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST.
