Talk with Prof. Giles Scott-Smith, University of Leiden, NL. Exiles and emigres have always played (and continue to play) a key role in designing political futures. This talk looks at the special role of the exile in twentieth century transatlantic relations, what they represent in terms of the transatlantic as a unique space for intellectual exchange, and why it is that these figures have been able to obtain such influence. Within the interdisciplinary workshop ?Gemeinschaftsformen der Moderne - Mechanismen eines Konstrukts", supported by the Graduiertenakademie Tübingen, Prof. Giles ScottSmith will be analyzing the construction of exile communities during the Cold War.
