The ?Hollywood novel" is a genre about southern California?s motion picture industry and its associated culture. This quarter we shall read novels about Hollywood and its sordid connection with mobsters. The early history of the ?dream factory" is a quintessential ?rags-to-riches" story. By taking Hollywood?s lunacies, glamorous big stars and producers as leitmotifs, we hope to explore the promise, futility and business of the American dream.
