When American author and filmmaker Lucy McCauley lived in Tübingen in 2008 and 2009, she became interested in how the post-war generations of Germans has dealt with the legacy of the Holocaust and World War II. She was also aware that some of her American Jewish friends continue to avoid Germany in their travels.
This film was her effort to open up a dialogue across the Atlantic. McCauley interviewed people in the Tübingen area ranging in age from 18 to 84, both Germans and American Jews living in Germany, with surprisingly candid results. Her film “Facing the Nazi Era: Conversations in Southern Germany“ premiered at the Vancouver Jewish Film Festival. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with the filmmaker.
