Documentary film with introduction by Tanja Hamilton, director. In West Virginia, where unemployment is high and prospects are bleak, the Toughman Contest is a huge annual event. In a single-elimination boxing tournament, ordinary men slug it out for the glory of the title Toughest Man in Town. You are angry and you can pay fifty bucks? You´re in! Most men have never fought anywhere besides a schoolyard or a bar. They are miners, truckers, and lumberjacks from the deepest hollows of Appalachia. Toughman Contest is a 90-minute, characterdriven documentary that follows three contestants. For all of them, the fight in the ring parallels the fights they are facing in real life.
