On the surface it may seem paradoxical - the USA is known for religious freedom and the absence of a state church, but simultaneously possesses a reputation for overt religiousness. Well-known examples include the presence of the “In God We Trust” on US currency, as well as the mention of God in the US “Pledge of Allegiance.”

How are such public mentions of God to be understood? Come explore the diversity of religious life in America. This presentation will examine the tradition of religious freedom in the US, the role of religion in daily life, and the wide variety of religious groups from the Latter-Day-Saints or Mormons, to Evangelicalism, to Judaism, Islam and Asian spiritual traditions, and the growth of secularism.
