The Emperor’s Children is a big-city novel as well as a satirical study of society. A few months before 9/11 Marina, Julius and Danielle – rich and in their thirties – have to face the fact that they are not living the lives they have always wanted.

When Bootie shows up and does something which none of the three would have ever expected they are challenged to change their way of existing. Author Claire Messud studied in Yale and Cambridge and is a Fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg in Berlin.
