This film tells the dramatic story of the life and work of Edward S. Curtis (1868-1952) - the charismatic artist and pioneer photographer. Between 1900 and 1930, he set out to portray traditional Indian life and created an enormous body of work - 10,000 recordings, 40,000 photographs, and a full length ethnographic motion picture - only to die poor and forgotten. The movie follows the creation of his monumental work, and his changing views of the people he set out to document.
